Developing Resilience and Fulfilment
Self-love is an interesting, and for some of us very difficult topic. Ideally we learn to love ourselves during our early childhood, being shown unconditional love and acceptance, watching our parents have a good relationship with themselves, set healthy boundaries, practice self-care, know their own worth and so on.

A healthy level of self-love lets us be courageous, optimistic, confident and authentic. It helps us through difficult experiences and allows us to see mistakes as lessons with kindness and forgiveness. It helps us be better partners, friends, parents and colleagues.
But what if we never learned and therefore don't know how to truly love and value ourselves or others? Then self-doubt, self-criticism, insecurity, low self-esteem and self-worth are often the result.
In many cases, because we had not developed this sense of a secure, healthy self, we end up being overly attached to other people's approval and acknowledgement.
Some of the signs for this could be
perfectionism
people-pleasing
over-achieving
constant feeling of shame and guilt
fear of being seen / being inauthentic
lack of deep connections
If you find yourself in any of these points, don't loose hope! Whatever we can learn as children, we can also learn as adults. It's a truly beautiful journey towards a more wholesome, happy and fulfilled life. And if I did it, everyone can do it.
Cultivating Self-Love: A Holistic Approach
In our fast-paced world, regular practices of self-love often take a backseat. However, self-love is the foundation of a fulfilling life. Here are 10 steps to Self-love, tested ways to start embracing and nurturing self-love holistically.
1. Mindful Awareness
Begin with mindfulness. Each morning, take a few minutes to center yourself. Sit in silence, breathe deeply, feel your body and self and become aware of your thoughts without judgment. This practice helps you connect with your inner self and fosters a compassionate mindset.
2. Positive Affirmations
Words have power. Start each day with positive affirmations. Speak to yourself kindly and acknowledge your worth. Statements like "I am enough" and "I deserve love and happiness" can transform your inner dialogue over time. Write your most needed affirmations on sticky notes and put them up in places around your home where you frequently see them.
3. Nourish Your Body
Treat your body with respect and care. Choose foods that nourish you, engage in physical activities that you enjoy, and ensure you get adequate rest. A healthy body is a crucial component of a loving relationship with yourself. The body impacts the mind and vice versa.
4. Set Boundaries
Learning to say no is a vital aspect of self-love. Respect your own needs and limits. Setting healthy boundaries allows you to conserve your energy for the things that truly matter to you. If it doesn't feel right, it's not for you.
5. Self-Care Rituals
Incorporate self-care rituals into your routine. Whether it's a relaxing bath, a walk in nature, or journaling, find activities that recharge your spirit and make them non-negotiable parts of your week. Prioritise yourself!
6. Embrace Imperfection
Understand that perfection is an illusion. Embrace your imperfections and see them as unique aspects of who you are. Celebrate your strengths and be gentle with your weaknesses. You are already perfect, just as you are.
7. Connect with Others
Surround yourself with people you resonate with and who uplift and support you. Meaningful connections remind us of our worth and provide a network of love and encouragement.
8. Seek Growth
Commit to personal growth. Read books, attend workshops, and engage in activities that inspire and challenge you. Growth nurtures self-love by constantly reminding yourself on your immense potential and expanding your understanding of yourself and the world.
9. Practice Gratitude
Cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Every day, note down at least 5 things you are grateful for. This practice shifts your focus from what you lack to the abundance already present in your life.
10. Forgive Yourself
Let go of past mistakes and forgive yourself. Holding onto guilt and regret only hinders your journey towards self-love. Understand that mistakes are part of life and each one a lesson and opportunity for growth.
Self-love is not a destination but a continuous practice. By integrating these holistic practices into your daily life, you create a nurturing environment for your mind, body, and spirit, allowing self-love to flourish.
Who else could benefit from these practices? Let's share the (self-)love!
